Invisalign.Every smile is unique. Therefore, every patient deserves a customized orthodontic treatment plan designed to meet his or her unique smile needs.

While traditional braces or other types of braces like ceramic braces offer great results, a system of brackets and wires may not be the best orthodontic solution for you. Smile Worx Orthodontics is proud to provide Invisalign as an alternative form of treatment.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a teeth-straightening system that relies on a series of clear aligners to move teeth, rather than on metal wires and brackets. These aligners are designed to move your teeth in small steps to the desired final position. Each Invisalign aligner is precisely calibrated and manufactured to fit your mouth at each stage of your treatment plan.

Benefits Over Braces

In addition to the great smiles that Invisalign provides, some of the benefits of this type of orthodontic treatment include:

  • Aesthetic Elevation—Invisalign aligners are made from a clear material, making them virtually invisible and undetectable.
  • Superior Comfort—Invisalign aligners are custom-made to fit your smile and do not utilize any metal, wires, or brackets that can irritate the mouth.
  • Easy Removability—Invisalign aligners need to be changed regularly, so they are not attached to your teeth. You need to wear them for approximately 22 hours a day; however, you can take them out to brush and floss your teeth, eat and drink, and for special social occasions or photos.

The Invisalign Process

Invisalign is not intended for children and is not appropriate for every adult. Only your orthodontist can determine if this treatment is an effective option for you. To see if Invisalign can help you achieve the smile you've always wanted, your first step is to visit our Edmonton or Leduc office and be evaluated. If you are good candidate for treatment, your orthodontist will utilize advanced computer technology to translate his precise treatment instructions into a sequence of finely calibrated aligners—as few as 12 or as many as 48. Each aligner will be worn for about two weeks. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move gradually until the final alignment is attained. Then you'll be smiling like never before.

Hygiene

How to Clean Clear Aligners

As mentioned above, one of the main advantages of the Invisalign system is that the trays can be removed for easy cleaning. So please don't neglect to do this! You'll need to brush your teeth after every meal or snack  to ensure that food does not get trapped and lead to the formation of plaque, which could promote tooth decay and gum disease. Your aligners will also need to be regularly cleaned ; you can do this by brushing them and then rinsing them with lukewarm water.

Retention

Please keep in mind that while wearing Invisalign aligners is very different from wearing braces, the importance of retaining your post-treatment results is exactly the same. You'll want to be sure to wear your retainer(s) exactly as prescribed by your orthodontist after your treatment is completed. This is how you will protect your beautiful new smile from shifting back to its original position.
